I recently stumbled on some videos of a band called Show Ya on YouTube. They are an 80s J-Rock band from Japan (duh). How I’ve never heard of them is beyond me.

Anyway, the few songs I heard from them are pretty cool. From what I’ve read, they got back together in 2005 an released a 20th anniversary album, and also did some concerts.

Check out one of their live concert videos. Pretty sure this was from one of their reunion concert.

Gackt In American Movie BUNRAKU

I had read about this a while ago but I remembered that I had wanted to post about it after reading a recent post on Asian Fanatics. Gackt will be playing *surprise surprise* a samurai named Yoshi. The movie will also star Josh Hartnett and Demi Moore. I’m not sure what the movie is about, but does it really matter? It has Gackt. That’s all that counts. =P

The Asian Fanatics article also stated that Gackt was born in Okinawa on July 4, 1971. Up until now I knew that Gackt avoided telling people about when he was born so I’m not sure how accurate this info is. But I still squee a little inside knowing that I finally know how old he is. Haha…oh cheap thrills.

Old School Jrock

I’m reliving my past by listening to some old school Jrock music. It all started when my sister put on 魔弾 [Der Freischutz] by T.M.Revolution and the flood of memories poured back. Man, the PV for that song was hilarious. I must find it again…I’m sure I’ve saved it away on one of my back-up CDs (yes, my computer is so old I can’t burn DVDs -_-). In the meantime I found it on youtube. YES!!!

But anyway, I really wish L’arc En Ciel, Dir En Grey and/or Gackt would come to Toronto and perform. I don’t care how much the tickets would be, I’ll be damned if I missed them. I’m squeeing inside just thinking about going to one of their concerts. I know they have all performed in the U.S. at some point during their careers, but I’m not sure if they’ve ever come to Canada. Man…I only wish. In the meantime I can listen to this Old School Jrock playlist I made. T_T

For those of you on myspace who love Laruku, you will be happy to know that they have created their very own Official L’arc En Ciel Myspace page. I’m not on myspace, so I cannot enjoy. Well I could make an account, but I have enough accounts over the interweb already. =P

X Japan NYC Concert in September!

For those who haven’t heard yet, X Japan has started reunion concerts in Japan. They recently announced that they will be holding a concert at Madison Square Garden in NYC on September 13th, 2008. From what people have said about the concerts they’ve already done in Japan, sounds like it’s going to be a blast! They even included a hologram of Hide playing the guitar — which reportedly cost Yoshiki $1.5 million (USD?).

I haven’t seen any place to purchase tickets yet, but when I do I’ll try to get them ASAP. I expect them to sell out rather quickly. If anyone hears anything please let me know! :P

Talking about the reunion concert, about two weeks ago, during the March 28th concert, Yoshiki collapsed while in the middle of performing Art of Life. He is doing fine now, and the collapse was due to exhaustion. I found the clip on YouTube, see here.

If you need more X Japan reunion goodness, search up “X Japan Night of Destruction” on YouTube. The site is loaded with goodies. :)

Yes, a back-to-back post, but I just HAD to post this now. I’m sure many people have read about the recent three series reunion concert held by X Japan in Tokyo last month. Yes, I was disappointed too that I couldn’t attend. Well, for those of you in the U.S. and Canada (and anywhere else you want to fly from), they are coming to the U.S. They will be performing in New York at Madison Square Garden on September 13, 2008. I guess all my complaining about artists not coming to Canada or to New York paid off. Haha! I probably won’t be able to go (no money) but for those of you who can, have fun. =D

Tour Dates:
07.05.08 - Paris, France
09.13.08 - New York, U.S.A.

Revisiting Morning Musume

I will admit that when I first started listening to Jpop I listened to Morning Musume despite their high pitch squealing. I of course moved on once I discovered better music, although I do revisit their happy-go-lucky music when I need a sugar high (without the sugar). Recently my sister and I were wondering what happened to two particular members that we thought looked a lot alike, but one was more annoying than the other. Well we found out that one had gotten pregnant at 19 and married the father soon after. I decided to revisit the information out of curiosity.

Well, the two (Tsuji Nozomi/辻希美 and Kago Ai/加護亜依) had graduated from Morning Musume in August 2004 and were created into a duo group called W (Double U). Then the one I thought was cute (Kago Ai/加護亜依) was suspended and eventually expelled from the group after being caught smoking underaged. Side note: I find it really interesting how in Japan underage smoking or drinking is severly punished while porn vending machines are located on street corners. But anyway…later Tsuji Nozomi/辻希美 was revealed to be two months pregnant and announced her official engagement to the child’s father, Sugiura Taiyo. She was 19 at the time and he was 26. Man, talk about tarnishing the candy sweet image of Morning Musume. =P
