Earthquake In China

On May 14, 2008 at approximately 2:28pm there was a massive earthquake in central China. The deathtoll is currently at 15,000 and rising. Rescue teams are still trying to rescue more than 25,000 people who are still trapped under the rubble. The quake measuared at 7.9 on the richter scale, which is classified as a “major” earthquake. This is the first severe earth quake that China has been hit with in 32 years.

I saw clips of the aftermath, including rescue missions, on youtube. The images I saw made me cry because I felt so hurt for my fellow human siblings. I cannot even imagine going through that and there are so many strong people who are going through this and helping each other out. I’m praying for everyone affected by this. It is such a tragedy.

I’m so disgusted by the number of innapropriate, insensitive, and racist comments left by some people. Honestly, saying things like “China deserves this” or “this is karma” makes me want to puke. How can people be so insensitive? Regardless of what political position you take about China, its policies, or its international issues, people should put these aside to help their fellow humans. We are all people who feel pain and can sympathize with those who are going through such a horrendous situation. To hold onto hatred, spite and anger in such a time is not only useless but just disrespectful.

Here are some articles to read if you want more information.

I know how you feel, some people can be so insensitive as long as it didn’t happen to them or their race and people. We are currently learning about earthquakes in science and it turns out that the Chinese were one of the first to be able to predict an earthquake and were able to save many because of it. If only they were able to predict it this time, so many wouldn’t have died, but I’m pretty sure they tried their best… :X
