SNSD Are Actually Popular

I just found out that someone I know loves SNSD. My first encounter with a fanboy, too! It’s so weird…not because he’s a guy, but because he actually likes them. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though. They’re more popular than I had anticipated. I think I figured they wouldn’t be as well received because of all the rumours that were circulating before their debut, especially against Jessica. Man, there were some really crazy fangirls who wanted to kill her for supposedly getting around with the SUJU & DBSK boys. I guess those really died down.

Recently it was announced that SNSD sold over 100,000 albums. I was not expecting that, especially since 8 of them can’t sing for shit. Good for them though. I don’t really like SNSD, but I have to give it to SM marketing. They really know how to sell fake artists.

This was posted way back in October but I only saw it now. It’s so amusing.

I don’t understand what the big deal is about celebrities admitting they watch or have watched porn. Honestly, who hasn’t? And what makes people think that all those commercials, advertisement posters, billboards, music videos, and music performances AREN’T porn? Just because artists cleverly cover up certain parts of their bodies and not others doesn’t mean they aren’t also screaming “fuck me”. I think these are more sexual than “official” porn itself, although it depends on the type and genre. But really, what is the big deal? As if it’s so taboo for to people watch it when it is only a very small minority of people haven’t or don’t. Let’s just be realistic and mature about it. If a person wants to watch porn, that’s their choice. I don’t think they should be slandered because of it, like Soo Young of SNSD. Poor girl. Even though I think she’s stupid and deathly skinny, it’s not fair that people are dumbasses and blow things out of proportion. I don’t encourage people to engage in porn, but they should not be demonized for it. Anyway, that’s my two cents.

So it looks like the organizers of the 2008 Korean Music Festival are pulling out their hair with the perpetual fluctuations in the performance cast. Two more artists, Eru and his father Tae Jin Ah have withdrawn from the festival. Eru will be enrolling the army and I guess his father couldn’t perform without his siemese performance twin. Oh well. X Japan NYC Concert in September!

For those who haven’t heard yet, X Japan has started reunion concerts in Japan. They recently announced that they will be holding a concert at Madison Square Garden in NYC on September 13th, 2008. From what people have said about the concerts they’ve already done in Japan, sounds like it’s going to be a blast! They even included a hologram of Hide playing the guitar — which reportedly cost Yoshiki $1.5 million (USD?).

I haven’t seen any place to purchase tickets yet, but when I do I’ll try to get them ASAP. I expect them to sell out rather quickly. If anyone hears anything please let me know! :P

Talking about the reunion concert, about two weeks ago, during the March 28th concert, Yoshiki collapsed while in the middle of performing Art of Life. He is doing fine now, and the collapse was due to exhaustion. I found the clip on YouTube, see here.

If you need more X Japan reunion goodness, search up “X Japan Night of Destruction” on YouTube. The site is loaded with goodies. :)

Well hello, are you solo?

First of all, let me tell you Korea is the Land of Couples!

If there is one thing celebrated more than Kimchi, I would say it’s couples. Sadly, this is not a rant from a single girl living here,
it’s a fact of life when you have lived in the Land of the Morning Calm.

So, April 14 is Black Day. The one day for single folk - who are called ’solo’.
It is the day that singles (read: solos) are supposed to get together with other solos and eat jjajangmyeon. Jjajangmyeon is the Korean form of Chinese black bean noodles. It’s dark both in color and flavor, but really good. I am told that it’s either an acquired taste or something that you either like or hate. And it is THE food for us singles on this special ‘Black Day’.

Sadly, I was not able to partake of the jjajangmyeon and the company of my fellow solo friends - the day almost passed unnoticed until another solo friend mentioned that it was, in fact, April 14th and thus, Black Day.

It makes me wonder…White Day and Valentine’s Day and Christmas Day and all the other couple days (most of which usually happen on the 14th of each month) are so hyped…literally…but, what happened to Black Day? If you’re a single in Korea,
something is wrong and that needs to be remedied. I was super shocked and a little bit annoyed that Christmas day is a couples’ day here. No joke…when you ask people about Christmas - they say…’Oh it’s a couples’ day. It is so sad if you are solo. We say you should stay home and watch Home Alone‘. Umm…no thanks.

It makes me feel a teensie bit better that wikipedia has something about it…even if it is a super short blurb : Black Day

I will leave you with a picture of jjajangmyeon…because really, what else does a solo gal like me have?

Okay…I was going to post a picture of jjajangmyeon…but I can’t find a good one. AND..while this post may seem bitter, it’s not. I’m just plain amused.

China Is The New ‘It’ Spot

It seems like recently a lot of Korean celebrities are going to China. What’s up with that? I just posted about Super Junior M (Mandarin) debuting in China, but I found out that Andy is going to be holding a solo concert there and DBSK are heading there as well. I guess China is a hotspot right now. I wonder how their Korean fans are feeling about this. I remember how many people turned away from BoA when she was doing a lot of promotional work in Japan because they felt betrayed. Maybe if Korean fans actually bought albums then their artists wouldn’t be heading overseas to make some money. But who am I kidding. Artists sell out all the time for material promotions all the time. As if they need anymore money. =P

Here is some concert information about Andy and DBSK. Dang, check out the schedule for DBSK! I hope they don’t start to wear our like SS501.
