Stupidity for the Sake of Promotion

Sometimes I am baffled at how stupid people/parties can be. First off the South Korean army is using the Wonder Girls and their popularity from their song Tell Me to promote the Army’s theme song in hopes to seem friendly to the public. WTF?! The only thing I take the army to be after this move is a joke. Who can really take a military organization seriously when they use five minor girls who shake their booty to stardom as their ‘friendly’ representatives. Especially when they are scared of soldiers because they all look the same. I bet the rest of the world’s militaries are laughing at South Korea’s army, because I certainly am.

Another piece of stupidity that I read about was Ayumi Hamasaki’s decision to continue performing despite completely losing her hearing in her left ear. She has known about her condition since last year and has stated that “Nevertheless, I would like to continue as a singer. That’s why I would like to continue singing until I reach the limit with my remaining right ear…I won’t stop. I won’t make excuses. As a professional, I would like to deliver the best performance for everyone” (source). At what point does being a profession equate to being a dumbass? As an individual if you want to be stupid and sacrifice your hearing completely then that is your decision. But as a role model, what kind of message are you sending to your fans and to the public? That it is acceptable to abuse your body for the sake of popularity, fame, and respect? I’m sorry, but that is nonsense. I would think that as an adult Ayu would be more intelligent. I don’t think it is a healthy message to send out and I do not see her as being loyal or selfless for her decision. To be selfless is to sacrifice any personal benefits from your actions, which she is not. She is being praised by mindless parties which results in increased respect, and is using her hearloss as publicity for her Asian tour. She is definately business oriented, which comes at the price of being a responsible human being.

i agree with you on the korean army topic, but not completely with hamsaki. i don’t think you should have criticized her decision the way you did. if she has a passion for her job and has a devotion to her fans, then whatever.

Well with celebrities I don’t believe that they are in the industry because of their fans. They are there because they have their own ambitions and desires. It’s not to say that they aren’t grateful to their fans, but I seriously doubt that Ayu is staying in the market because she wants to be loyal to her fanbase. If that were the case then she (along with other celebrities who make similar decisions as her) would be having free concerts and not selling out to product promotions.

I totally agree with you…i’ve been bashed so many times for not liking Wonder Girls…but seriously, have you heard them sing????—Sure, they sound nice on record (hmmmmm….), but have you heard them live??? They’re horrible! I’m sorry if people hate me for saying this…but really, all they have are pretty faces…and even with that, they fail to showcase it properly. Whenever they perform, my friends and I cringe because they try to be too Americanized/cutesy-cutesy…(as if they weren’t cute enough)…I just wanna tell them, “you are already pretty…stop making a fool out of yourself by overdoing it… and even if they try to be “overly cute”–they can’t do it because (i don’t know how to explain this but–) they try to do it, but they try to be “safe” with it (meaning the dancing…the everything). When they dance, it’s like they’re afraid of messing up their hair and outfits–but you can’t be like that if you’re gonna dance– What makes a good dancer is not really caring about how you look to others..it’s about feeling– and those girls, they’re just “doing” it b/c it’s apart of what they are supposed to do. It just doesn’t come off naturally. Back to the SINGING (which is HORRIBLE…oh, i’ve said that already)– they should really train train and oh yea… PRACTICE!!! I give JYP props for everything that they’ve achieved although i do question the credibility of them actually winning awards–especially awards such as the Bonsang during the Golden Disk Award… when they won, i was like WTF, the system is CORRUPTEd, CORRUPTED i say!!! It’s amazing, really– Note to JYP: make sure they can actually SING before releasing them to the public.. My friends and I watched the Golden Disk Awards together and we were just like, OMG– they won for THAT??? “Tell Me” is so OVER-RATED…Wonder Girls is OVERRATED.. They can’t sing, they can’t dance, they can’t perform… OMG what is Korea thinking. I’m so sorry okay. They sang the Don’t Cha song during the KBS Song Festival and OMG, they tried to be “sexy”–well, “American-sexy” and I’m sorry to say this, but they just looked all wrong. It looked like they were trying to be sexy but they didn’t take it the next step; there was something missing in the performance. It just looked ALL WRONG when they were singing and dancing to it…Only Nicole S. (sorry, don’t remember how to spell her last name) and the Pussycat Dolls can pull off that song and dance sexily w/o looking like total sluts. I mean, Wonder Girls–they’re not ALL bad, they can improve and i hope to dear God that they make me regret typing/writing this rant about them because I really want to see them do well. They have the face–, now they just need the voice, and that extra “umphh” to not be afraid to dance crazily–that’s what makes a good performer–people who don’t fret about how it makes them look. And, they DO sound okay when they’re singing as a group, they just have to work on their solos. Sorry (so sorry) if I am overly harsh on them, but i just don’t think it is fair that they won an award that many other artists have worked so hard for –and actually deserve it. It’s mind-boggling, I mean, Epik High won a Bonsang too–and they’ve been out for some time and I TOTALLY ADORE THEM…I truly think that the awards should go to artists who really deserve them, not those who are “popular” b/c of one hit. Seriously–and based on some articles that i’ve read on Wonder Girls, those girls need to grow up– but hey, this is my opinion so bash me if you want. I know I have said my share here…

and I’m sorry for the long long long LONG comment. And again, I apologize to any one who I might have offended… This is just how I feel about the injustice of the entertainment biz. I can name a handful of artists who should’ve deserved that/those award/awards.. again I say, it’s mind boggling; it truly is.
