A Quick Update

mood:
listening to: nothing

I haven't blogged recently, so I'll do a quick update on what I've been up to lately. =P

Last friday, I went to a bar for lunch with some of my co-workers. We ordered chicken wings, and it was so good! =) I didn't drink anything.

On saturday, I went to Niagara Falls in the morning (left at 8:00 AM) with my family, and Wally tagged along as well. The "kids" and the "adults" each did their own things, since my grandpa can't walk too much so my parents had to stay with him. We went to Ripley's Museum (I've been there before), and spent most of the time there. That funktacular tunnel was funky! We were going to eat lunch at the Rainforest Cafe, but we ran outta time... needed to meet up with my parents at 12:30 PM. When we were walking back to the van, there was a crazy mist that was more like rain. Needless to say, we got soaked.

On Sunday, John gave his last sermon. He has resigned as the pastor of MCC because he is changing his ministry to doing debates and writing books. It was a good sermon, and John will be missed at MCC.

Last night, all the developers from work went to a farewell dinner for me and the other co-op student, Trevis. I had a steak, some appetizers (umm.. calamaris), a glass of beer, and we all ate ice cream cake afterwards. We played some pool, and I embarrased myself by sucking a lot... lol. It was fun, and I got home around 10:30 PM.

Edit: After Niagara Falls, I went over to Ams' place for Anup's birthday party. It was a secret one, but she wasn't so surprised when she found out. =P We had bbq, and a very chocolatey cake. Anup and her friends watched a horror film, but Ams is scared of those movies so I just hung around with Ams... looking at pictures and such.

Theorem: All numbers are equal.

mood:
listening to: nothing

I found this on bash.org:

<prepared>Theorem: All numbers are equal.
<prepared>Proof: Choose arbitrary a and b, and let t = a + b. Then
<prepared>a + b = t
<prepared>(a + b)(a - b) = t(a - b)
<prepared>a^2 - b^2 = ta - tb
<prepared>a^2 - ta = b^2 - tb
<prepared>a^2 - ta + (t^2)/4 = b^2 - tb + (t^2)/4
<prepared>(a - t/2)^2 = (b - t/2)^2
<prepared>a - t/2 = b - t/2
<prepared>a = b
<prepared>So all numbers are the same, and math is pointless.

So what does that mean exactly? Are all numbers really equal? The answer is no of course. But where does the logic break down in the series of steps?

If you look carefully at the second last step in the series of equation manipulation, something should jump right out. While it is true that "a - t/2 = b - t/2", it is also true that "a - t/2 = -(b - t/2)". If you go from there, then you'll get "a + b = t" again, which we had already assumed from the start.

C++ Battle

mood:
listening to: Rie fu - I Wanna Go to a Place...

At the risk of being labeled a geek, I will go ahead and post this....

I found this conversation to be quite funny. (it's a chat log from mIRC)

* +ramoth4 slaps politik with an unsigned long double
* +politik comes back with a _uint64 uppercut
* +ramoth4 pulls out a struct and returns fire
* +politik corrupts ramoth's heap
* +Fire_Elemental-Coding- ducks to avoid leaked memory
* +politik pops Fire_Elemental-Coding- square in the stack
* +ramoth4 stuffs politik's face in the bitbucket, and begins to operate on nil pointers
* +politik throws uncatchable exceptions around the room
* +ramoth4 dodges skillfully with his try-catch block
* +politik cuts off ramoth's private member
* +ramoth4 encapsulates the wound in a protected class
* +politik destroys all foes with up-casts to inappropriate derived classes!
* +politik is out of ideas
* +politik :: ~politik();
* +ramoth4 declares flipcode his namespace!
<+ramoth4> I win!
* +ramoth4 beat C++.
<+ramoth4> The last guy was hard.

I found it on bash.org.

Busy Busy Day

mood:
listening to: Sum 41 - Some Say

I went to two weddings this past Saturday (James and Yang's in the morning, and then Jeanne and Channing's in the afternoon). I stayed for the reception after James and Yang's wedding, and I ate a lot of food =P. I got to see a lot of people that I haven't seen in ages. And we left for the second wedding soon after.

Ams wore the yellow dress that she bought at La Chateau. She looked pretty ^_^. I wore my new dress shirt and tie.

After the two weddings I went with Ams to her friend's bday dinner. I saw/met some of her friends from high school. And after that we went to her work-friend's engagement party. What a day... =P.

So Sunday I was home all day... took a two-hour nap and couldn't sleep til late that night. haha -_-;

WoW: Mother Grounds Son (post for hiliraty)

mood:
listening to: nothing

This was in The Inquirer today. Some kid was grounded by his mother after she found out that he was posting on the WoW forums at 3:29 AM. The mother also plays WoW and reads the forums regularly, so when she saw her son's message (which was posted at 3:29 AM), she replied to it and grounded him. LOL XD

The post can be found here.

A Moment in World of Warcraft

mood:
listening to: nothing

I found this to be quite funny. It's from the WoW forum. And just so everyone knows, IBS stands for Ice Barbed Spear... which is a rare weapon which can be obtained from a quest.

I think of the Ladykillers where IBS means Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I've also heard it on TV for some of the prescription drug commercials. IBS with constipation, lol. Try and think of all of the posts you see about IBS and replace it with that.

"How hard is it to get IBS?"

"I finally got my IBS and I'm so happy!"

"I can't find anyone who wants to help me get IBS."

The Cawthra gang got together for all-you-can-eat sushi on Saturday night. Good times. Good times. We had an eating competition... well, jokingly.. not serious. Sadly, the team I was on (Team Strike Force) lost. Mo, you gotta train more! haha =P j/k. Til next time guys!

And now I gotta try and finish up my work report ASAP...

Help! I deleted my Internet!

mood:
listening to: Green Day - Holiday

I hadn't used the Internet at home for the past two days. I thought something had gone wrong with Bell's lines, or maybe the bill payments were behind. It turns out that the phone jack was kinda messed up. So now it's fixed and my Internet connection is back. o_o;

Things are so boring with the Internet, and when I sleep it feels like I haven't done enough for the day... >_<

PS. I was joking about the headline... I'm not that dumb. heh

A day in Toronto

mood:
listening to: L'arc~en~Ciel
I went down to Toronto with Ams yesterday. Took the TTC down to Korea Town and had lunch at Korea House. We went to the park there, and there was a racoon sleeping on a tree O_o. There was a place that was selling plants, and one of the plants was a fern that closes when you touch it. I don't know what the name is, but I used to see it all the time in Taiwan.... didn't think I'd see it again =P. Ams ended up buying that plant later on when we went back to the store.

We saw Wedding Crashers after lunch. It wasn't that funny, even though I've been told it was. It was a pretty disturbing movie actually. And what makes it more disturbing was that there were two kids there watching it with who I assume is their mom. *shrug*

Anyway, we met up with Francy and James at James' condo. We all went to a Japanese restaurant to eat, and Tina came from the bookstore. I had some great food... mmm =).

I can't wait until school starts... then I can see Ams more often. hehe

There, They're and Their

mood:
listening to: nothing...

I've been reading the WoW forums a lot lately (no I'm not slacking off at work), and there are a lot of people who don't know ther difference between "there", "they're" and "their."

For example, someone posted something along the lines of, "Their really good items. Their are a lot of them there!!!" Oh gosh... I just can't stand sentences such as this. And I'm not claiming to be the King of Grammar (I'm far from that), but learn some grammar! And while you people are at it, also learn the difference between "to" and "too."
