Ottawa: Part 2

mood: happy
listening to: Thornley - Come Again

I was in Ottawa, with Ams, for the past two and a half days. Ams came over to my house in Sauga Sunday night, and stayed over. We took the 11:30 AM bus to Ottawa. One last 5-hour bus ride... *shrug* =P. Got to Ottawa around 4:00, I think.

The first night we didn't do much... watched some movies, ordered a pizza. We ordered a Canadian pizza, and it came with pepperonis, bacons, and olives. I guess the Quebec version of the Canadian pizza is like that. Still good though.

On Tuesday, we went around downtown Ottawa for a little bit. We walked through TimeSquare since it was a bit cold out. We also stayed in the Rideau Centre for a while. I bought a black turtleneck from Club Monaco that was on sale. We walked to the Parliment and took some photos. Walked back to the market area (through Rideau Centre), and ate at a little Taiwanese place. Ams wasn't really hungry, so we shared a plate. We had fried pork chops... mmmm.... ^_^. Went to the art gallery at 4, and had exactly an hour before it closed (at 5). The main feature was the art pieces by Jean-Paul Lemiux (sp?).... can't say I really enjoyed the paintings.... but I couldn't go to Ottawa for four months and not see the art gallery! We ate McD's that night, and watched Six Strong Guys.... a Chinese comedy.

On Wednesday we had a little bit of trouble getting up in the morning... actually, just me =D. We did make it to the Museum of Civilization at 2 PM, and also picked up tickets for the Imax show, Forces of Nature. I enjoyed the museum a lot more than the art gallery. There was a freaky movie about some native legend of an immortal cannibal... that was weird. The Imax was great. Ams couldn't get her chair to lean back cuz her chair was busted. hehe. That was the first Imax I've been too, pretty neat stuff! We ate dinner at a Thai restaurant near my house. It was a really nice restaurant. I had my first Pad Thai, and Ams had a really tasty chicken dish. We watched The Notebook when we got home.

My parents came and picked me and Ams up at noon today... I had so much stuff to pack. We got to talk with my Aunt and Uncle (Tauyee's parents) before we left..... well, mostly my parents were talking with them while me and Ams just kinda stood there. We ate some pho before driving back to Sauga/Brampton.

I had a really fun time in Ottawa. It was great to spend time with Ams cuz we haven't gotten to see each other for a long time.

Goodbye Ottawa!

mood: happy
listening to: Rachael Yamagata - Reason Why

I finished my last day of work today. I'm catching a bus ride back to Toronto tomorrow at 11:30 AM, with Mike.

We had a party at work yesterday, at Minglewood's. Got there at noon. Joe (my boss) paid for me, Mike and Kevin... we didn't know he was going to at first, so we also ordered a pitcher of beer, which he paid for us too. heh. I had rum and coke to go with my suicide wings... mmmm.... hot wings. Dave ordered some more beer for a bunch of us.... so I had two glasses of beer and a glass of rum and coke. Don't think I've ever drank that much for lunch before, lol. I had a blast at the party. Played a few games or pool, watched some sports on big-screen TV, and just chatting/goofing around with people. It's too bad that most of the other co-op students finished their work terms last week. It would have been nice to have some of them there as well.

I finished my work report today at work. I've been working on it all of this week, and it was good to get it done and out of the way. Had one last meeting with my boss and Dave. It was a really weird feeling to know that this was my last day. I really enjoyed this work term. This has been the best one I've had so far. I met a lot of people this term, had really nice co-workers, and a great boss.

One something completely differently, it was raining today! Raining! It got up to 7 degrees today... wow... What's worse is that the sidewalks all became so icy and wet. I slipped 3 times while walking back from work. However, I did not land on my butt. All 3 times I've broken my fall with my hands.. so, my streak of not falling on my ass has not ended =P.

It's that time of the season!

mood: happy
listening to: Foo Fighters - Everlong

The new WoW patch added a few holiday surprises to the WarCraft universe. I've been working on my work report most of today so haven't had time to really play. I did, however, spend 10 mins going around Undercity and Orgrimmar to take screenshots of the festivities. I hadn't gotten to the Christmas quests, nor the part where you can transform in to a snowman (lol). Here are the screenshots if anyone is interested:

screenshot 1 (Undercity)
screenshot 2 (Undercity)
screenshot 3 (Orgrimmar)
screenshot 4 (Orgrimmar)

Tomorrow there is a Christmas lunch party at Minglewood's (a pub), courtesy of the Water Survey of Canada (where I work =P). I hope the food is free... free lunch! haha.. hopefully =D.

I was at the Rideau Centre (a mall) with Kevin and Mike after work. We bought cards and present for our Boss, Joe, and a semi-boss-co-worker guy, Dave.... well, Dave isn't really our boss but we have done stuff for him and with him. We got them both cards and a bottle of wine. Had to ask the guy at LCBO which wine was good for a present. He recommended Amarone wine... it's wine made from Amarone grapes from Italy. I'll keep that in mind if I ever buy wine again =P.

And a progress report on my work report: I'm about 50% done now.... and that took less than 2 hours... hmmm... I should be able to get it at least 90% done at work tomorrow since I just finished the last two things I needed to do for work. I have the rest of the week to finish my report, but I wanna get it done tomorrow to give my manager Thursday to mark it... don't wanna have him mark it over the holidays.

Work-Work-Work Report!

mood: happy
listening to: Smashing Pumpskins - Tonight Tonight

It's the last week of the work term! And I haven't started writing my report yet..... haha. I've talked to several people, and they haven't started either... and they've already finished their work term. So see, I'm not THAT behind. =P

Last night I was at dinner with Mike, Kevin and his gf, white Kevin, Vikas, Eric, and two other guys whose name I dunno how to spell. We went to Empire Grill. We didn't make reservations, so we ended up waiting about 3 hours for a seat. They did give us a free round of shooters, and we had good conversations. It's all good. Got our seats 3 hours later. I ordered a burger, lol... trying to save money la. Vikas and white Kevin both had the duck... $29 for a piece of duck the size of your fist! lol

Went to a pub afterwards and had a few pitchers. Left the pub at around 12:40 AM. Good times. I will miss Ottawa.

PS. The headline reminds me of P-P-P-Powerbook! hehe

I thought this was pretty funny. The Bad Science Awards. The funniest IMO is the Chinese government trying to grow giants tomatos in space with the help of space radiation.... haha, wth?!

Work Term Almost FInished

mood:
listening to: Yellow Card - Only One

A lot of co-ops at my workplace are finishing their terms this week. We all (well, most of us) went down to a Japanese place for lunch today. It was the first time eating asian food for a lot of them, and it was quite funny to watch them trying to use chopsticks =P. It was the Joy Restaurant... been there two times before, and they have upgraded the place. New menus, nice metal chopsticks... lol. The waitress thought I was Korean. The was the conversation:

Waitress: Hey, are you Chinese?
Me: Yeah. Were you gonna ask me if I was Korean?
Waitress: Yeah, you look Korean.

She was Korean btw. I guess she thought it was kinda weird that a Korean dude is hanging around with two Chinese dudes and a bunch of white dudes. =P

I'm a little bit glad the term is almost ending. I will be going back to Waterloo to see a bunch of people I haven't seen for a while. Ams will be 5-10 mins away from me... And, it's starting to get really cold in Ottawa. Got down to -21 degrees last night *brrr*. I will definitely miss Ottawa, so I'll make the best of it these last 2 weeks or so. And I'll take Ams around to places when she is up after Christmas ^_^.

Christmas Card

mood:
listening to: Kang Ta - Polaris

I thought this was pretty cool.

X-mas Card

Just one thing though... 2.71828 isn't really e. It's just an estimation. It should really have said "2.71828..." Note the "..."! Haha... obviously the person who drew this wasn't in math. =_o *cough*

Snowing Yet Again...

mood:
listening to: Kinki Kids - Kanashimi Blue

I swear that it's snowed more this term than it has rained. Considering it just started snowing recently, that's pretty crazy! I don't like winter. It was fun the first few years here, where you go out and make snowmen and such. Now I just hate snow... especially when it forms into ice.

My streak of not slipping on ice is still ongoing. hehe. I've slipped once in Waterloo during the first year. Damn hill outside of V1 cafe is too damn slippery. Pretty funny when you see people fall on their butt though =P. But anyway, since that time I've yet to slip. I guess I've mastered the art of walking on ice.... hwaa!

Anyhoo, the term is ending in about two weeks. Some of the co-ops at my workplace is finishing on the 17th, which means next week will be their last week. One of them being Eric (also in CS in my year). So today at lunch, me, Kevin, Mike and Eric all went down to China Town and ate at a pho place. There are maybe 10 or more Pho places in there.. haha. They have a large pho for only $6.66 (haha, evil?), and it's so huge! Maybe I'll go there again if I ever feel like pho.

New gloves and stuff

mood: happy
listening to: Utada Hikaru - Promise

I went to the Chinese church I brought Ams and the other people to last time. The people there are nice, and I'll see them around in Waterloo probably since they're almost all UW students =P.

I got new gloves today.. I went around the mall trying to find cheap gloves. I saw a pair in Eddie Bauer that was very nice. Then I looked at the price tag.... $34.95! For a pair of gloves! lol.... I ended up buyin a pair in Sears for $12... cheapest I could find. Then I went to Shoppers to get new garbage bags and kitchen garbage bags (supposedly they suppress odour). I also picked up a new air freshener because my other one ran out. It's fresh laundry fragrance, lol. I like the smell of clean clothes, so I thought I'd give it a try. I like it so far =).

It's Snowing!

mood: happy
listening to: Linkin Park - Forgotten

I woke up this morning, and it was snowing hard outside! I had to take another route to work, cuz it was too slippery to walk down this slope I usually take. It snowed for quite some time. When I was out for lunch at 12 there were still some light snow. I think about 2 inches of snow on the ground now.

Snow on the first day of December. heh.... is it winter yet? I don't even know =P.
