A Lot To Do

November 13th, 2007

I’ve been very busy at work for the last little while. There are a lot of projects here and there that I’m working on. High on my current priority list is a mobile version of the GlobeInvestor website that will be launching along with a mobile version of the Globe & Mail website. The day goes by so fast when you have a ton of crap to do at work. I can’t believe it’s November already, with Christmas just over the horizon! Everyday is so routine, and I’m starting to get bored of it… not the work, but just that everyday is more of less the same thing. I guess no matter what your work is, eventually it’s just gonna become routine, which kinda sucks.

If I wasn’t saving up money I’d definitely take a long weekend, or even take a week off, to go somewhere and have fun. But alas, I don’t have that much money to spend on vacations. I just hope that I do get to go to Japan and Korea next year, I really need a break.

What to do with 5 minutes left at work?

Weekends are too short

August 6th, 2007

It’s a civic holiday today in Ontario. I wish we had longer weekends, or just shorter work days. In most European countries (maybe all?) they only work a maximum of 6 hours per day, whereas in North America we typically work 8 hours or more each day. That’s a third of our day gone! Plus it takes time to get to and from work as well (for me that’s 2.5 hours), and add on 8 hours of sleep, then we only get 5.5 hours each day to do our own thing. That’s not a lot of time at all! You need some time to relax, time to cook and eat dinner, do some exercise, chat with people. And there’s always some extra things you want to do — for me I’m trying to learn learn Japanese. Does anyone actually think a 9-5 schedule is fine?

Classes Over for Undergrad!

April 6th, 2007

I finished all my classes on Tuesday, which means I’m done classes for my undergrad career. It’s a bittersweet feeling. In a way I won’t really miss all the late-nights and all-nighters, but I will miss school. Being in school I’ve been kept sheltered from the real world — with the exception of co-op terms. It’s going to be very different to step into the work environment for a much longer period of time. In the academic environment you’re able to try out so many new things, but in the work environment there are so many constraints on what you can do. Not that I don’t enjoy work — there are many things you can learn at work as well — but I don’t think it’s as exciting as things you do in school.

Anyway, I got a call back from Workbrain, and they want me to start work with them in June. However, because they recently got acquired by Infor, they cannot officially give me an offer until the whole acquisition process is done. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and I’ll start work in two months so I don’t have to do any more job hunting… I hate job hunting.

The next few weeks for me will just be studying, and finishing my AI project. It’s going to be pretty busy, but it’s nothing I haven’t been through before. =P
