What Happened to Single-File?

August 18th, 2008

Remember back in grade school your teachers will always have you line-up in single-files along with the other kids. This happened before recess, before lunch, before the school day ends.

Now, we’re all grown up. We’re adults. We don’t line-up single-file anymore. Nope! We found a better way…

The TTC subway pulls up, with a sea of people crowding in front of the tracks. The door opens, and it’s everyone for themselves. Pushing, shoving, anything goes!

This morning on my commute to work, the subway was delayed at Yonge station (yet again). And there were maybe 3-4 times the normal number of people at the station. Let me just say it wasn’t pretty. When the train finally came and the door opened, people were trying to get on when the other passengers were still trying to get off! All I heard was one lady shouting in a very frustrated voice, “Let the other people off first! Geez!” Finally, one decent person among the zombies.

Why does Toronto, and probably all of North American, suck so much? Why can’t we be like the Japanese and line-up for the trains. The most efficient way to board a train is to line-up. It should be first-in-first-out queue so it’s fair. I hate when you get there first but some punk pushes his/her way in front of you.

Starting Wedding Plans

July 2nd, 2008

Ams and I started plans for our wedding. Ugh. It’s so troublesome! Why does it take so much time and money to have a wedding? I hope everything will go alright and we won’t be too overwhelmed!

We’re thinking about setting up a website for our wedding. Maybe some blog posts and stuff. Could be a chance for me to experiment with Django. I can link it up toe del.icio.ius and flickr so we can make micro-blogs. :P

Back From My Trip

May 29th, 2008

Well, I’m back from my Asia trip. Actually, I’ve been back for a little over a week now. Been kinda lazy lately about blogging… or just things in general. I’m finally over my jetlag, which is a good thing. Not being able to stay awake past 10 PM was not cool. haha

So how was my trip? It was not long enough! Here are just some quick thoughts.

  1. Hong Kong was way too hot, and I wasn’t even there for the hottest season!
  2. The subway systems in HK, Tokyo, and Seoul totally kicks TTC’s butt!
  3. Japan and South Korea are very different. I thought they would be similar before I actually got there, but nah-ah.
  4. Tokyo is so clean, which is very impressive considering it’s hell trying to find garbage cans.
  5. Tokyo fashion >>>> Toronto fashion. (actually do we even have fashion?)
  6. There is no such thing as pedestrian rights in Seoul. You often see motorcycles driving on sidewalks, and sometimes even cars!
  7. People spit a lot in Seoul… watch your steps!

I’m Off To Asia!

May 2nd, 2008

I’m catching a flight to Hong Kong tomorrow, and will be visiting Japan and South Korea for the next 2.5 weeks. I will try to blog a few times on the trip since I will have internet access pretty much the whole time. If you have me on Facebook I will be posting photos there whenever I get a chance to. :)

Beerlicious

March 24th, 2008

There a beer festival happening in August, in Toronto. I think it’s an annual event, and I think it was held near my workplace last summer — or maybe it was another beer festival? Anyway, I’m trying to buy tickets online but the form keeps timing out on me. :(

I guess it might be too early to buy tickets, but I want to make sure that Ams and I get to go for sure. Anyone else going?

Going to Asia in May!

March 15th, 2008

I’ll be heading down to Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea for 2.5 weeks in May, with my buddy from university. We’ve been wanting to go on this trip since we graduated last May, so it’s finally going to happen!

I already have the tickets and everything, and it looks like we can save quite a bit of money by staying with people we know in HK and Tokyo. Hopefully I will be able to blog and upload pictures at some point during my trip. If not I can always do it when I get back.

So exciting!

Happy 2008!

January 1st, 2008

The holidays are over now and we’re in a new year! I just want to say Happy New Year everyone!

Ams and I had our engagement party this past Friday (December 28). It went well, and I hope everyone had fun. I’ve uploaded some photos on facebook.

4 Year Anniversary!

November 17th, 2007

It was Ams and mine 4 year anniversary on Thursday (Nov. 15th). I took Friday off so I could go to Waterloo and visit her. We were looking at some old photos of us, and oh man I can’t believe we used to look like that. I’d say that we look much improved since our first date four years ago. What did she see in me at the time? heh :P

My Ankle is Borked

November 13th, 2007

I think my left ankle is worse than before. I’ve had a weak ankle since spraining it in highschool while playing basketball. But ever since I sprained it this past summer while playing ball with some co-workers, it hasn’t really healed completely. It’s fine sometimes, but sometimes it just feels really weird. If I wear a tensor then it’s fine, but I shouldn’t rely on that. Maybe I should go see a doctor about it, or a physiotherapist?

A Lot To Do

November 13th, 2007

I’ve been very busy at work for the last little while. There are a lot of projects here and there that I’m working on. High on my current priority list is a mobile version of the GlobeInvestor website that will be launching along with a mobile version of the Globe & Mail website. The day goes by so fast when you have a ton of crap to do at work. I can’t believe it’s November already, with Christmas just over the horizon! Everyday is so routine, and I’m starting to get bored of it… not the work, but just that everyday is more of less the same thing. I guess no matter what your work is, eventually it’s just gonna become routine, which kinda sucks.

If I wasn’t saving up money I’d definitely take a long weekend, or even take a week off, to go somewhere and have fun. But alas, I don’t have that much money to spend on vacations. I just hope that I do get to go to Japan and Korea next year, I really need a break.
