Holy Spam Batman!

March 8th, 2007

I haven’t blogged for a while, nor have I managed my comments. I logged in today only to find more than 500 comments awaiting moderation (spam filter caught them), so I wasted no time in deleting them all with a press of a button. Then I go to view the comments that did go through, and had to manually delete 100 or so comments that the spam filter did not catch. It sure was a pain, and now I think I should install another spam filter, maybe one with Bayesian inferencing.

So school has been pretty busy. I’ve had to do a lot of work pretty much everyday since the middle of the reading week. The good news is that I’m doing pretty well in school. This is my best term by far, with the except of my 1A term. And after almost 8 terms of school, I finally found my groove. For something reason, everything is clicking for me this term. It’s not that this is an easy term — actually, this is possibly my hardest term so far. The key is to take courses that I’m actually interested in. All my courses are great this term, and I really enjoy them… well, maybe not forecasting, but hey, at least now I have even more things to talk about when I strike up a conversation with a stranger at a bar. I’m just kidding BTW.

This pattern pretty much sums up a great part of my academic career. Even back in high school, I had to take calculus twice. The first time around I got 78% and found calculus hard. Knowing a 78% in calc will NOT get my into Waterloo, I took it again and got 97%. I could not understand what I found hard about calculus the first time around. And in university I’ve not had trouble with calculus, even the much more advance materials.

My first year in university was pretty easy. I didn’t find the courses as hard as I thought they would be. I ended up with “Excellent” standing after first year, which means my cumulative average was above 80%. When second year started though, I had a lot more problem keeping up with certain courses, and my marks reflected that. Then things began to pick back up a bit in third year. And now, in my last term of undergrad, everything just makes sense to me. It’s really hard to explain, but it’s as if my intelligence just got a boost. If only I can figure out a way to trigger this strange phenomenon at any time, then I’d be set. Alas, I can’t figure it out.

Just a few other things I want to say before I sign off. Ams and I have been pretty good for the most part this term. We went through a period where we fought a lot, but we’re improving quite a bit I think. This last month of school will be very hectic for both of us, so I hope we’ll be able to find time to do things together.

And lastly, I’ve been playing this stupid Tower Defense game online. I can’t get past the second last level, after so many tries. I really should stop, but it’s so tempting to play! Anyway, if anyone can figure out a way to beat the game on normal difficulty let me know.
