Man sues company for fly in water

June 21st, 2007

I read an article in today’s Globe and Mail about a Canadian man that sued a bottling company because he found a fly in his drink. He was actually awarded $341,775 initially. That award has since been stripped. I can’t believe any judge would would ever award him that large sum of money in the first place — or any amount of money for that matter. Anyone who becomes depressed and loses their sex drive over seeing a fly in water is just sad. It’s not like he actually drank the water. One thing I don’t get about the article, though, is why it bothered to mention the man’s ethnicity at all. What relevance does that bear on the story?

Convocation 2007

June 17th, 2007

I had my convocation this past Friday. It was pretty hot that day, and I was dying in my long black robe! The ceremony wasn’t too long, lasting about an hour and a half. We went up three at a time shaking hands with either the chancellor, the vice-chancellor, or this other guy. I shook hands with the Chanellor! haha

I went to Waterloo with my parents, Joyce, and picked up Ams at her Waterloo house on the way to campus. Marvin, Steve, Mo and Stephanie also attended the convocation. Neither Peter nor I knew that they were coming, so it was a pleasant surprise. We all went to Ye’s Sushi afterwards for some all you can eat sushi! Peter’s dad paid for all of us, it was very nice of him.

I stayed over on Friday night at Ams’ place. Didn’t do that much, basically just hanging out. Maki and Vanessa were packing to move out. Maki went back to Japan today. On Saturday I went back to Ams’ place in Brampton with her, and had some BBQ in honor of the new grads. And that’s pretty much my weekend. Saw a bunch of people that I probably won’t be seeing again. Oddly, I don’t really feel sad or anything. I guess I’ve done this so much already, now it doesn’t affect me.

Ams is Back!

June 3rd, 2007

Ams came back from Europe last Thursday, and came over on Friday. Went to watch Pirates of the Caribbean III on Saturday. I saw it earlier, but she hasn’t. She enjoyed the movie, so it’s good. I’m less forgiving about nonsensical plots and cheesy moments, but I will say that it isn’t bad — just not that great. She got me some Lindtt chocolate from Switzerland. My favourite so far is the dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate.

Last night, the Cavs won the Eastern Conference series against the Pistons. I’m very glad they won, as I don’t like the Pistons that much. The Cavs have a really good attitude, and that’s what won them the series. After game 2, the Cavs made no excuses for losing the game, even though there was the bad call at the end. Instead they just came out and played hard. This is what the Suns should have done against the Spurs, instead of just complaining about dirty plays. I wish the Cavs best of luck in the NBA Finals. I think they have a chance to win the title, but it will be very hard.

All Hail King James

June 1st, 2007

I must admit, I haven’t been a very big fan of LeBron James since he came into the league. He has skills, I’ll give you that, but it just didn’t seem like he had reached that level of play that so many NBA greats has reached. This year’s playoffs changed all that. James has received much criticism for not being able to make the plays down the stretch to help the Cavs close out games. I think he is learning very fast what it takes to win in the playoffs, and it proving his critics wrong.

James’ performance in Game 5 in Detroit is one of the best playoff performance in NBA history — if not the best. In total he scored 48 points, including 29 of his team’s last 30 points in the game! On top of that he had 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and only 2 turnovers. It will be interesting to see if he can keep playing like this the rest of the series. If he does, then the Cavs have a very good shot at winning the Eastern Conference Championship. I don’t think the Cavs have what it takes to beat the Spurs if they do make it to the finals, but then again no one expected Miami to win last year’s title.
