How To Tie A Tie

Author: Ams
05 6th, 2008

I’ve been tying my tie the wrong way! Well that’s what I always thought because I was told that the right way lets you pull the two ends apart without creating a knot…and mine didn’t. But according to Le Chateau there are three ways to tie a tie. They even had diagrams to show them. =D

1. The Windsor Knot

One of the really sucky things about living in Canada is how U.S. companies consistently screw us over. First they think that our dollar is always worth less compared to theirs, and they insist that we should pay more for the same products than U.S. citizens. Not to mention that when you shop online many companies have ridiculous shipping rates for Canada and offer free shipping or much lower rates to U.S. residents, including ones that live FURTHER AWAY THAN CANADIAN ONES (i.e. Alaska, Hawaii, and all those other islands in the Pacific)! Now I’m not saying that those states should not get treated well. I think they should, but so should Canadian customers as well. I understand that your Canadian branches have to operate under different laws with different accounting, hence the different sites (and often their Canadian sites suck too!). But seriously, do you need SUCH discrepency in the amount of money you expect Canadians to pay than U.S. residents?

I went to the Mary Kay website to browse their products to see if I wanted to order anything different from my consultant this time. Well I went to their first and noticed that their prices were a lot cheaper than the prices I was paying with my consultant. At first I thought she was ripping me off, but then I compared it to the prices on their Canadian site. Seriously, the price difference is ridiculous! Here are some items I was thinking of purchasing or have purchased in the past.

Name of Product - Canadian Price - U.S. Price - Difference

  1. Makeup remover - $17.50(CND) - $11.00(USD) - $6.50
  2. Satin Lips combo - $30.00(CND) - $18.00(USD) - $12.00
  3. Velocity Moisturizer - $22.00(CND) - $11.00(USD) - $11.00
  4. Velocity Cleanser - $18.00(CND) - $10.00(USD) - $8.00

So if I ordered all of these things I would have spent $87.50 (CND) while someone in the U.S. would have spent $50. That’s a difference of $37.50. Now I know the two dollars are not worth the same, but it’s not so different that I should be paying that much more for the same products. It’s really annoying. And I really like Marykay products too, but I’m so jaded now. I know I don’t really have a choice unless I want to go back to horrible store brand crap, but I’ve just lost respect for a company that prides itself on the entrepreneourship opportunities it offers to its employees. Basically they “liberate” one group while exploiting another - their Canadian customers.

Btw, I am not bashing on Marykay alone. All the U.S. sites I have tried to shop on (which are quite a few) are all like this. Those bastards. And to the American customers that complain about the prices you pay, STFU! Try living in Canada and only being able to shop at 3 stores. Spoiled brats.

I recently made my first online purchase of shoes a couple of weeks ago from Zappos.com. I was hoping that my shoes would arrive at my parent’s house last week so that I could try them on this weekend to see if they fit. Well just my luck - they arrived yesterday. So now I have to wait a while before I can see if they fit. I really hope they do because it costs $15 to send them back. I really hate how U.S. residents get free shipping and Canada has to pay customs and shipping charges. Why can’t companies have locations in Canada? It’s so annoying.

I feel really tired today. I’m not sure why exactly. I went to bed at 11:30 and woke up at 7:45, which I think it’s plenty of sleep for a grad student. I thought it was because I was hungry, but I just ate my lunch…so what’s up? Maybe my body gets tired from knowing all the deadlines that are coming up in the next two weeks and how impossible it is for me to meet all of them. Did I mention how tired of school I am?

I went to the mall yesterday and bought a dress for our engagement party. I really like it, but to be honest I liked the first one better. I had picked out which dress I wanted and went place an order for my size on Sunday, but the manager said she wouldn’t order it for me because there were too many orders for that dress that came in damaged. The waistband isn’t wide enough so it ends up being wripped when people try it on. It was such a beautiful dress too. You would think that designers would check to see if their creations were practical. So many times I’ve attempted to try a shirt on and the neck doesn’t stretch enough to fit over my head. And I have a very small head! So stupid. Anyway, this is the dress I got. Sorry for the bad pics. I wasn’t patient enough to take a “fabulous” shot. These were good enough. =P

What A Shitty Day

Author: Ams
11 8th, 2007

This has been one of the worst days I’ve had in a while. The peas was the highlight of my day…that’s how fucked up the rest of the day was. Excuse my swearing, it has become a habit. But really, that’s the only way to describe it.

- The internet wouldn’t work this morning
- Got overcharged at the grocery store and didn’t realize until I got home
- Almost broke my back walking home with all my food
- Got pissed on by peas & had to clean it up
- Had to battle with a useless dollar store can opener (another bright decision by my roommate)
- Went to attend a fellowship group for the first time and nobody was there
- Marked a shitload of assignments…and remarked another shitload of them
- Fought with Jack because he’s being an insensitive jerk

This day bites! I either need a drink or need to go to bed. Hamster kisses just isn’t cutting it.

[edit] Stupid Wordpress did not change the clock for Daylight Saving Time and posted this entry for the next day. Bastards. Let it be known that it is 11:35pm on Nov 7, 2007 right now. [/edit]
