Toronto Beerfest 2008

Jack and I had bought beerfest tickets a few months back and we were really looking forward to going. My sister and her friends had gotten tickets for the Friday and we got tickets for the Saturday. Well it was this past weekend and it was not as great as I was expecting. It was at the Historic Fort York, which is overlooked by the Gardner Expressway. The weather wasn’t so bad on Friday but Saturday was horrible and Jack and didn’t end up going. I did go on the Friday with my sister and her friends since she couldn’t fill one ticket. Here is my pro/con list. (I’ve been watching too much Gilmore Girls)

I woke up to a full blown thurnderstorm this morning. I don’t think that has ever happened before. Normally I feel quite down when we have rainy weather, but this time I feel quite relaxed by it. We’ve gotten a lot more rain than usual this summer and it’s a nice change from the droughts we’ve been having over the past couple of years. I remember how everyone’s lawns would be yellow and crispy, and now they are green and lucious. So beautiful! I hope we have more summers like this. I’m sure all those people who have to actually go outside today are glaring at me. =P
I moved back to Waterloo today and plan on staying here until my lease is up at the end of August. I met up with one of my MA friends and we walked around the area for two and a half hours just catching up on things. It was nice to be able to do that again (being at home made me have a very limited social life). I’m partially happy to know that I’m ahead of so many others in our program with the progress of my research. But I’m still worried about not being able to graduate on time. I’m in a stage now where I can’t really do much and I need to wait on a couple of things before I can get cracking on analysis and writing. I’m trusting God and trying not to worry.
Out For Korean BBQ

Hello everyone. I’m back! The trip was great, the weather wasn’t as bothersome as I had been warned about, and the jet lag is death. Ok, the last part is an exaggeration. I got back on Thursday and then spent the weekend with Jack rather than trying to recover from the trip. Tsk tsk to me. He just got his first place so I was helping him clean it up on Saturday. I think I’m more excited about it than he is, but I’m sure that once it sinks in he will be excited too. =P
We went for Korean BBQ over the weekend to Korean Grill House which offers an all you can eat menu. Can’t go wrong with that. We were seated next to three men who were enjoying their meat very much. I was baffled by their conversation though. I always thought the dialogue by men that was depicted on commercials advertising meat products was complete BS until I heard these men talk. It was the most stupid, senseless comments about the goodness of meat and grilling meat. One part went something like this:
Guy1: Meat is good
Guy2: Grilled meat is good
Guy3: Oh yes, grilled meat!
Guy1: Spice it up!
Guy2: Then it’s a totally different meal.
All: HAR HAR HAR
Guy3: Yeah, meat is good.
-and repeat-
Jack and I just looked at each other like we were scared that such stupidity was contagious. I remember at one point Jack and I started talking about computer challenged people and I shared some stories my cousin told me about his experiences working in the Dell call centre (in Bangalore). As we were poking fun at such people, especially people who type with two fingers, the men next to us grew quite silent and just stared at their meat. I wonder if they were computer challenged people. Haha, well the definately won’t be reading this if they are. LOL
Beerfest 2008

Jack and I just bought our tickets to Beerfest 2008. It’s an annual beer festival that is held in Toronto that celebrates beer in Canada. There are more than 200 beers featured and some other junk like prizes and stuff. It runs from Friday August 7 to Sunday August 10. We’re going for the Saturday one. I’m really looking forward to it. Since Jack and I haven’t done much during undergrad, it’s nice to go to festivals and stuff together and with our friends. For those who are interested in going, get your tickets early by buying them online. =)
First Double Date

Jack and I went on our first double date last weekend - it was fun. We went for sushi first, which unfortunately I threw up because something didn’t agree with me. I don’t think I’ll be eating that for a while, and I really hope that doesn’t include greentea ice cream *lurve*. After dinner/upchuck we went to see The Other Boelyn Girl. I really enjoyed the movie. The plotline was sound (no unanswered questions or confusing parts) and there were continuous surprises. I loved it. I would really recommend anyone to see it, although if you are looking for historical accuracy then I would sway you elsewhere.
The previews for the movies coming this summer were really interesting. I think I want to see all of them, especially the Sex and the City Movie. Personally I think the preview gave away WAY too much into the story - I was actually a bit pissed. I really hope that they didn’t just show the best scenes and the rest of the movie is kinda meh…although I seriously doubt that. Here is the official trailer that doesn’t spoil the fun.
What concerned me a little (well more than a little) about the movie was Charolette and Harry’s adopted “Mandarin” daughter. I really hope that the same light hearted racism and avoidance of heavy race issues that occured in the show doesn’t present itself in the movie as well. I hope they bring some light to the complexity of international and intercultural/ethnic adoption, because the issues really need to be addressed. And I hope a lot of boneheaded people don’t watch this movie and think that it would be great to adopt an “exotic” child because Charolette did. I really hate stupidity.
