Engagement Party Dress
Author: Ams
I went to the mall yesterday and bought a dress for our engagement party. I really like it, but to be honest I liked the first one better. I had picked out which dress I wanted and went place an order for my size on Sunday, but the manager said she wouldn’t order it for me because there were too many orders for that dress that came in damaged. The waistband isn’t wide enough so it ends up being wripped when people try it on. It was such a beautiful dress too. You would think that designers would check to see if their creations were practical. So many times I’ve attempted to try a shirt on and the neck doesn’t stretch enough to fit over my head. And I have a very small head! So stupid. Anyway, this is the dress I got. Sorry for the bad pics. I wasn’t patient enough to take a “fabulous” shot. These were good enough. =P

While looking for articles for my paper, I came across a story that really touched me. It’s titled 4 friends die in crash after church event. Four women died from a head-on collision with a van. The driver of the van is suspected to have been intoxicated. What touched me was the statement made by the daughter of one of the deceased women. She stated:
“I feel compassion for the man’s family also,” she said. “It’s a sickness, and it was just unfortunate that people still think they can drive and drink. It’s just a tragedy for everyone involved, his family also.”
“And I know that if my mother was alive, she would have forgiven him. That’s what she taught us to do.”
Wow. Those words are so eye opening. It’s very true though. We often demonize drunk driving to the point that anyone associated with the drunk driver is stigmatized as well. And really, what did they do wrong? Drinking and driving is also portrayed as a horrible act that makes anyone who commits the act a monster. It’s not that the person didn’t make a poor decision, but this monster label is so harmful. If someone is an alcoholic then they need our support, not our scrutiny. I know it is a very sensitive topic, especially for those who have lost someone close to them from drunk driving. But when I see people drink and drive, or the perpetual abuse of driving by alcoholics under the influence, I see it as a failure of the system, not necessarily the complete failure of the person committing the act.

I just updated my About Me page and my Blogs page. I thought that was worth noting. I can’t wait until Jack finishes my new layout. I’ve been looking at this one for almost a year.
Creepy Guy At Work
Author: Ams
My family is coming up to Waterloo tomorrow so that we can all go out for lunch. I’m really looking forward to it. When I was growing up, my family didn’t do things like this. The only time we went out to eat was randomly to McDonald’s, and that was usually because we were travelling and got hungry. They are also going to take me to the mall so that I can refill my printer cartridge and order a dress for Jack’s and my engagement party. I was planning on doing this yesterday, but it was Buy Nothing Day and I was determined not to buy anything. I am very proud of myself, especially since I was craving a bag of cheese puffs at work. Saved myself $1. =P
Speaking of work, we had an incident with a suspicious man. He had approached a young woman at Starbucks while she was purchasing something (no! it’s buy nothing day!), and he kept asking her for her number. After refusing and leaving the store he followed her to our work place (which is the campus recital hall) where there was a concert. I was working the at the concession stand. Before the concert and during intermission he made his rounds to all the ushers (who were all young women) and asked them if they had a boyfriend. He did this to me as well, which I didn’t think much of at the time since the conversation started out like just a friendly conversation. I was then approached by one of the ushers who was trying to warn me about how he has been asking the other ushers about their personal life, to which I told her he did the same to me. He was then asked to leave, which he did, but since nobody escorted him out we didn’t know if he really left the campus.
Online Harassment Ignored By Laws

I had originally re-posted a post from resist racism, but then I realized after that the author(s) asked for their writings to not be republished without permission. This is a good lesson for me to make sure I do so in the future.
The post was about a story that has become quite popular lately which involves two neighbouring families with 13 year old daughters. The two daughters were friends at one point, but then broke off their relationship when certain things occurred (I’m not sure what exactly). So to get revenge the mother (Lori Drew) of one of Girl A created a fake online identity as Josh Evans with the help of others and befriended Girl B (Megan Meier) on her myspace account. Over the course of a few weeks Lori portrayed Josh Evans to like Megan, which resulted in Megan falling for Josh. Lori/ Josh then abruptly broke up with Megan by telling her that she treats her friends badly, and then sending out all the juicy details of Megan’s confessions to Josh to a number of Megan’s fellow students. Many of then harassed her on her myspace account calling her fat and a slut, and then Josh left his last comment on Megan’s myspace that stated “Everybody in O’Fallon knows how you are. You are a bad person and everybody hates you. Have a shitty rest of your life. The world would be a better place without you.” Megan, who had suffered from depression for several years of her life hung herself that night in her bedroom closet and later died the next day in the hospital.
