Internet Laws

Author: Ams
10 24th, 2007

The internet is one of those things (if there is anything to compare it to, really…) where it is hard to create and govern rules surrounding it. Because it is virtually global (literally), we would need a global governing body. This would be impossible to do without having ethno-centricism play into effect. For instance, different cultures view stealing in different ways. To base it on the rules of plagarism and copyright laws in Canada would privelege Canadian laws over those of other nation-states and communities.

As far as it goes, a lot of the internet is a free-for-all. Which means, that sites (including blogs) can be features of study without requiring the consent of its owners and users. So for my research paper, I could study various blog entries posted on various sites and never have to ask the permission of the writers. Kind of scary, eh? Sucks to all those suckers who think their little copyright symbol at the bottom of their webpage will get there anywhere. Haha. Good luck trying to track “theives” down.

P.S. I’m giving my first lecture EVER tonight. So nervous! >_<
